ARIES - IV EMPEROR – Sun of the Morning – Chief among the Mighty

Appearance:

IV Emperor sits on the throne of Kether, with his body resting in the shape of the symbol for the alchemical Sulphur, which Crowley wrote in the Book of Thoth that: "Sulphur is the male fiery energy of the Universe". . . . .This male energy compliments III Empress, and when combined with II High Priestess; completes the alchemical triad of Mercury, Salt, and Sulpher.

The Emperor's legs resemble the number four. Four is the number of the trump, and would indicate that the Emperor has close ties with Jupiter who is king of the Planetary Realms. The throne is designated by golden emblems (of the Star of Kether), which also have a connection to Jupiter, as the axle to the Wheel of Fortune; this is evident in the Waves of Jupiter which emanate outwards from the golden emblems as "guidelines of influence". This aspect of the Emperor's hieroglyph would indicate a balanced support from the Astrological, Metaphysical, and Planetary kingdoms.

The cloth of the Emperor is deep-red and adorned with Bees and golden three-dimensional Zoroastrian Swirls. This would indicate his influence from the realms of the highest all the way to the lowest of the earthly manifestations. To those that have the key; both the Emperor's and Empress's shirts would be considered encoded-logos of the royal grail. With the bare legs of a dancer, the Emperor wears the harlequin shoes of his polar opposite VIII Adjustment; indicating his love and level of fairness in all matters.

Across the top of the card are the Himalayan Wild Rams that are associated with Aries. One of the Rams is basking in the warm Sunlight of Tipareth, and the other is soaking-up the cool white light of Kether, which is emanating from Chokmah. The Sepirothic light is beaming across the Emperor and reflecting off of the gold emblem of Kether. The head of the Lamb and the Alchemical Shield are also illuminated in the metaphysical light of the Sepiroth.

In the Sunlight "the guidelines" which emanate outward, are examples of Lady Harris's Projective Synthetic Geometry, these are very obvious examples. These guidelines are from Sol, though most of them that you will find throughout the deck will be Jupiterian, with influence from Kether through Chokma. "Guidelines" are mentioned in chapters X Fortune, I Magus, and XIII Death and could be mentioned in other cards.

The Emperor holds a bomb topped with a Maltese cross (lit fuse) in his left hand; which would indicate his disposition should battle erupt. It also would represent his level of support for the honorable seeker of Astrological Theurgy. In his right hand he is holding a Ram headed wand, signifying Aries, and the establishment of kingdom.

The Shield of the Alchemical Red Twin Headed Eagle would represent Sulphur with the dynamic ability to implement the apparatus of Mars. Like III Empress's white shield, our Emperor's red shield would also represent a controlling entity or situation in the aspirant's life. Like the Empress; this controlling situation will be based in love; a masculine fatherly love, instead of our lady's motherly love.

The Lamb and the Flag would represent the honorable man or woman. The Emperor lives in the astrological realms of metaphysics where humanity would be symbolically represented as an archetypical beast; from the rugged and dangerous Himalayan Wild Ram to the tamed Lamb. This should not be looked upon in a negative light, because humanity is not his bane, but his love; as we are the Emperor's court, the reason he is King and Stuart to mankind.

The twin golden Fleurs-de-lis (otherwise known as the rare Golden Lotus) would represent the fraternal Initiates that know of the secret aspects of the Zodiacal Aries, to include the Formulae of the Honorable Lamb,and the Formulae of the Aeon of Osiris as the Sacrificial Lamb both of which will be captioned in the Mysteries section below.

Interpretation:

In a reading it would represent things like a work-situation, something you are bound to such as financial commitments, promises, even oaths. The planetary Mars indicator on the Alchemic Shield would represent the most-likely avenue for influence in relation to earthly matters; which to some, the Aries-Martian energies would be described as intense, even war-like.

Sometimes IV Emperor will reign over a situation. For example: a work, or school schedule getting in the way of your fun-time, or the Company Rulebook pertaining to your "dress code", or some other similar commitive-type of situation. The Court, Minors and of course other Trumps will define the nature and players of the situation. Many times the presence of IV Emperor and his Mars/Aries energy will define the combative nature of the situation, but this is not always the case, and you must consider the trump-defining Minors surrounding it.

The Mysteries:

The Formulae of the Honorable Lamb which will be revealed in the exercises below; simply states that the 100% Honorable(and fearless) man or woman will have the backing and protection of IV Emperor, Mars, and Aries, with additional support from Jupiter, Sol, and Pluto. In the Formulae of the Aeon of Osiris as the Sacrificial Lamb; the Lamb and Flag would represent the Dying God of many religions from that era.

IV Emperor represents the first steps in Astrological or Zodiacal Theurgy. I would predict that the Aspirant whom finds him or herself in the presence of the Zodiacal King; will thoroughly enjoy the experience.   It in some respects (not all) the experience could be considered a *Zodiacal Initiation (if he welcomes you in). To write about it more would take-away from an awesome experience, instead we urge you forward in your Theurgy so you can enjoy this aspect also. neo note:*the opinions concerning any form of Initiation, stated in any of the chapters of this book, should be considered astral in nature, and representative of scientific developmental levels in the archetypical world of the cosmos, defined by Tarot; and not meant to imply that they can replace fraternal initiation.  

Using the Count Walewski method of crossing one's eyes, just enough to align the twin medallions of Kether; which makes a third button in the center After you have lined up the medallions; look below and notice that the Shield of the Alchemical Red Twin Headed Eagle has moved in front of the Lamb, and seems to be protecting it. This would indicate that the honorable person will be protected by the Zodiacal realms of Aries.

Using the same Walewski method of crossing the eyes can reveal secrets when using IV Emperor alone as described above, or when combined with the other trumps: the Kings consort III Empress or the polar opposite VIII Adjustment.
