LEO: XI LUST - Daughter of the Flaming Sword

This card is a meditative tool for Leo, as the god-form Sekhmet; focus on the image and whisper:
Sek`met
HeVavYodHeh
Ver-ke`el
Se-ra-te`el
O`el
Ar-ye
Ur`Gula
P`do`ce
Ge`ba`bal
Forward: This card is the basis for Crowley's thelema, and to present it without the religious zeal of a thelemite, or at least not sounding evangelistic in its presentation has been challenging, so here we will expound briefly so as to better absorb the mystery without the religious stigmata associated with this card. The Thoth Trumps indicate developmental levels, and many of them translate into aspects of the Mystical Marriage. The different trumps hieroglyphically elaborate different aspects of this Mystical Marriage. Where XIV ART would represent the scientific aspect of Alchemy leading to the Mystical Marriage, XI Lust represents the same marriage happening through the laws of nature. Seems simple enough huh? Wait, what was explained above was only one of the exoteric aspects of this card, the esoteric aspect is far from natural; some would consider it an abomination. That being said, the exoteric aspect and the esoteric aspect both would indicate the coming of the avatar for the Aquarian age, one born into the position, the other created from detailed plans that were conceived well before conception, and then born into the position. This moon child aspect will be discussed below in the "Mysteries" category.

Appearance: In a purple sea of Saturn, Nuith as lady Babalon rides upon a many-headed lion. A cherub of fire is this lion, and his tail is the Illuminated lion serpent. The knowledge of the illuminated lion serpent is Saturnine in its essence, even Aquarian, and could be considered the occulted aspects of the new aeon. The purple sea shows evidence of sepirothic development which was still frozen in the skies of XVII Star, and the depths below are the ghosts of initiates who have supported the grail with their blood, they are those that have held the secret with their lives, and are now working with the invisible masters from the other side. Out of the Cup of Babalon are the ten sepirothic spokes of X Fortune (Crowley called them "horns of the beast"), at the ends of which are formations of the new sepirothic structure. Out of this new Aquarian Sepiroth: "serpents sent forth in every direction to destroy and re-create the world" Crowley – Book of Thoth. At the hub of the sepirothic spokes is the fully lit All in All, which is realized in XXI Universe, and could even be considered the result of XI Lust. According to the Book of Thoth we see the head of an Angel, the head of a Saint, the head of a Poet, the head of an Adulterous Woman, the head of a Man of Valor, the head of a Satyr, and the head of the illuminated lion serpent as the tail. The woman is intoxicated with lust; she is like a cup overfilled with the Sun and Moon. The lion also is full of lust; Babalon holding the reigns in her left hand representing the Sun's and the Moon's passion for each other, and in her right hand she holds aloft the Grail Cup. XI Lust represents the Hebrew letter Teth, a serpent, and is Leo ruled by the Sun as path 19 from the mercy of Chesed to the strength of Geburah. The polar opposite of XVII Star or Aquarius; Leo is the topmost point of the 12 Pointed Star, and a member of the fiery triad, accompanied by Aries and Sagittarius, or IV Emperor and XIV Art respectively, in its fiery nature and tide.

Interpretation: In a reading XI Lust will let you know by the surrounding cards what the true will of the Querent is. The card will symbolize what the Querent really wants. Here is an example of what I mean: You may say that what you really want this new higher paying job out of town, but what you "really want" is to do your favorite hobby. So it's not so much what you think you want, as much as what your "gonna get", because "no one's going to stop you". It is a momentum driven by true will, a force; close to unstoppable, Jupiterian in its levity, and with the roar of a lion. For some it could indicate an inner battle, or actually the recognition of an inner battle, even soul searching. In some cases it would represent the voices of people around you trying to tell you what is right. The advice would be to look within and ignore the others and really search inside for your true will. This search will consist of your own parameters. You may have to explore all the different aspects of your wants and needs to find this true will, but there is no law that says you can't have fun on the path of discovery. In a yes or no situation, it is a positive card, and should be considered a nice card in any spread small or large, as once elaborated, the situation will usually bring a smile to all present. If the Querent asks a relationship type question, and this card pops up, the title XI Lust really says it all, and the other cards will expose what aspect and level of Lust you are dealing with.

Mysteries: In the cup is the moon child of the age of Aquarius/Leo. The moon child is born of the union between the Sun and the Moon. Crowley - Book of the Law: "For he is ever a Sun and she a moon. But to him is the winged secret flame, and to her the stooping starlight". Through Magickal Ritual; the High Priestess is impregnated; bringing in the new life. Supposedly divine, this new life will bring on the Aeon of Aquarius/Leo. Another aspect is Homunculus, the created messiah. A human created by invoking exact cosmic alchemic recipes into the fetus the entire duration, from the planning stages, through conception (which is another story), on through pregnancy, till the moment of birth; the mother never leaves the circle, while an assigned initiate constantly invokes… every color, every image the mother sees is an aspect of the above described alchemic recipe. Also of note about this card's mystery is that; in Liber XV and the Gnostic Mass of the Thelemites it is implied that that; gnosis in the company of the great mystics of yesteryear is possible. And like many of the other trumps, a meditation with its polar opposite card can be rewarding. By holding XVII Star alongside XI Lust at an arm's length away, and slightly crossing your eyes, it will bring a created third image, focus on the new created tarot card, as you notice aspect of both cards; an interesting image unfolds, as it starts to jump and flash, relax, and drift off to gnosis with Leo.
