VENUS - III EMPRESS

Daughter of the Mighty Ones – Gateway to the Astrological

Forward:
The numerous symbols that adorn the Thoth III Empress card can get confusing in their individual aspects. Through study of these differing individual symbols and their many formulas; the aspirant will come to understand the: "many-throned, many-minded, many-willed, daughter of Zeus". Crowley – Book of Thoth. In Crowley's "777 Revised" it lists twelve facets of Isis, which aptly describe what Crowley was alluding to in his quote above:
  • Wisdom, like Pallas Athene.
  • The Physical Moon.
  • The Perpetual Virgin, twice-born with Osiris.
  • Nature complemented by her final form Nephthys as Perfection.
  • The Builder of Cities as indicated by her head-dress.
  • The Spouse of Osiris.
  • The Mother of Horus.
  • The Spirit of Corn or food in general.
  • Earth in general.
  • The Goddess of Water or the Nile, and therefore of wine in general.
  • She is the soul of intoxication, this representing the spiritual rapture of physical love.
  • The Initiatrix; mistress of secrets. The Teacher. The Restorer as the earth fertile after winter, and was shown by her collecting of the fragments of Osiris.
Represented by the Hebrew Daleth, meaning a door; and connecting the lofty forces of Chokmah to Binah on the Sepirothic Tree; III Empress represents the highest of the divine forces.   The location of the planet Venus being so close to our Earth allows a doorway of communication and love to open, from the highest spiritual forces, all the way to the lowest of the living energies. In the classics, this would be represented by the King's daughter, who though of high-bloodline; relates very well to the town-commoners. She is the type that would nurture and savagely protect her loved ones.

Appearance: A general manifestation of the womanly archetype with her arms held in a position representing the alchemical salt. Salt being the inactive principle in nature; it would represent the lower material aspects, while the art of alchemy itself representing the highest. Salt being inactive, it needs sulfur to energize it.  III Empress gets this from IV Emperor, and she will also utilize the cosmic cycles and their resulting earthly cycles to implement her logos. This is evident in the twin eclipsed moons that are built into her watery throne, and the eclipsed moon that is magickly-encirciled in the shield of the twin headed alchemical eagle. She holds the feminine Blue Lotus of Isis, which in nature; the petals open to the Sun, while the roots are seeking nourishment in the muddy lake bottom. This would be another representation of III Empress standing for the highest and the lowest spiritual and intellectual qualities at the same time. Her pink long-sleeved shirt is adorned with secret symbols and pass-keys that symbolize her duties as the daughter of Zeus, and the wife of the Astrological IV Emperor Aries. Her golden belt (Girdle) is that of the Astrological realms of Theurgy, and when combined with her pink shirt, they are the secret-key to growth as a solitary occultist. This so-called secret-key opens the Arch or Doorway (Daleth), which is visible behind her. Sitting on the watery throne of the double eclipsed moon, she is comfortable in her earthen-green skirt; holding an imaginary-baby; nurturing us with the unconditional love of a mother. The look on her side-profiled face seems to indicate that she is a loving mother, yet her hair-style and stern-glance appear savage, even war-like. Her golden crown appears to be crested with an old cartoon-style bomb, whose red Maltese cross would symbolizes the lit-fuse. A pink pelican feeds a basket-full of chicks. The secret attributions of the Pelican aptly describe the levels of devotion that an archetypical-mother will go to, to protect and feed her young. A Pelican will peck-out her own blood to feed the chicks if necessary. As part of her throne, the twin watery pillars, which after winding their way through the double eclipsed moons; find a sparrow and a dove perched at rest on top.  Birds of all-kinds are associated with Venus. While birds typically eat worms and bugs, they do this while singing the songs of the gods. Both the watery-pillars of her throne and the birds perched on them; symbolize love. The white alchemical twin-headed eagle shield represents the hierarchy or structure of some controlling-force in the aspirant's life. This situation, which could be viewed as strict, will be love-based in its construct and resulting outcomes. The blue & gold fleurs-de-lis that adorn the bottom of this card have a dual meaning. One is the fleurs-de-lis that is found standard on insignias of all over the world, and signifies the initiates that know the high secrets. The other meaning of the fleurs-de-lis, is that it represents the rare golden water lily, which is a Lotus. The twin fleurs-de-lis that are floating along the bottom of the card supposedly adore the secret-rose. Upon a closer inspection, the secret-rose is actually the golden lotus of XIX SOL, shining over a golden pyramid, which appears to be sitting in a flooded Venusuian valley. Crowley: Book of the Law, Chapter 1, verse 60; the goddess Nuith Speaks: My colour is black to the blind, but the blue & gold are seen of the seeing. **For more on this mystery see:  http://neognostica-bookofthoth.blogspot.com/2010/10/xxi-universe.html
Interpretation: In a reading, this Trump will always indicate that the Querent's life is being controlled or even constricted by a situation that is based in love. It could indicate a school situation, or a childcare situation, a mother-in-law situation, a mother situation, a child needing a mother situation, a motherly protection situation. Any kind of situation that has you tied-up in it yet is based in a feminine love metta.  It can sometimes indicate a motherly-type person in your life, but only if accompanied by the correct court card. III Empress will almost exclusively refer to situations, more than to individual people.

The Mysteries:  As the daughter of Zeus, and the wife of the Astrological IV Emperor Aries, III Empress has very high duties. In the planetary realms she assists Jupiter and SOL in all matters, especially concerning humanity. When the aspirant is ready? And after an invocation to Venus, our lady will take you through the Daleth; introducing you to IV Emperor and the Astrological realms of Theurgy. This can usually occur upon request, and after working with all of the elemental, and planetary forces multiple times. Question: Have you ever heard the statement: "Men are from Mars, and Woman are from Venus" ?  Yes? Than why is Venus (III Empress) married to Aries (IV Emperor)?     Answer: It was an arranged marriage. See the legend of Camelot, especially the bane of Lancelot's love. Meditation on all of these overlapping symbols and emotions can bring the aspirant very close to the goddess.
