VIRGO: IX HERMIT - Magus of the Voice of Light - Prophet of the Gods

Appearance: An old man is hunched over in the shape of the Hebrew letter Yod. The letter Yod means a hand, and in his hand is a lamp that houses the sun, a lamp that shines brightly with the exoteric aspect of the ineffable mystery. This lamp attracts the earthly instincts; see Cerberus the 3 headed hounds of hell, also the Spermatozoon. Question; is it a new life, or a fossil? Even the wheat in the field sways towards the sun-lamp, the Hermit harbors a secret, one is obvious, and the other is hidden in the orphic egg. While the wheat and two of the heads of Cerberus are focused on the lamp, the Hermit is looking at the egg. As he looks at the orphic egg and thinks of its contents; he is considering the alchemical secret of mixing fire and water, though he has not yet completed the operation. For a look inside the orphic egg; see XIV ART. Notice the multiple beams of geometric light; this would be indicative of the secret fire of Yod. Many of the more yellowish of the beams are coming from the lamp, while others are emanating from multiple points outside the borders of the card. One of the geometric lights he carries on his shoulders looks like it is heavy, the others are beacons; shining through the fields of wheat, as a guide leading to the orphic egg. This card is ruled by Virgo and the Hebrew letter Yod, sitting on Sepirothic path 20 between the Mercy of Chesod 4, and the Beauty of Tipareth 6. There is a Mercurial influence on multiple levels going on here. The lamp is attracting all those who think, because it houses the sun. The serpent of wisdom is wrapped around the orphic egg and it is on the mind of the Hermit. The mind wanders despite the hard work in raising a field of wheat.

Interpretation: In a reading it could be an indication to listen to your instincts and intuition in the matter at hand. IX Hermit could also indicate that whatever is going on in the mind of the Querent, has taken on a much higher level of importance than he/she is displaying on the outside. If a court card is indicated, it could mean that a person in your circle harbors a secret, if the court card is the Querent than he/she already had insights into the reading's question. It could indicate that someone around you knows more about a situation than they are supposed to….. A couple of pulls will reveal who has let the cat out of the bag, as the surrounding cards will always tell the tale.

The Mysteries: The Spermatozoon represents the inner workings of the mind of the Hermit, he/she is thinking about complex philosophies concerning alchemy and initiation. The initiate now has all the tools that I Magus had previously left on the table, and is starting to utilize them towards the goal of completing the secret alchemical work of creating a reflection of the secret fire, completed through the crucibles and lamaseries of life, and realized in the beetle which carries this solar reflection across the water in XVIII Moon. Sometimes this card will represent the Initiate's first steps into a zone where he/she has complete command of the mundane world, while always realizing that the fuel for the said success is inside the orphic egg. The initiate is attempting to trust divine providence to lead him/her to their goals, and if the goals of the Universe come first, so be it. He/she is really starting to conceptualize the death; IX Hermit could be considered the fertilizer that grew the farm, which is apparent on XII Hanged Man.
